GStor Wave
FAQ |
|
| |
| |
General Issues |
|
Step 1 - Set Up Your GStor Wave
Add your favorite programs to your GStor Wave to carry with
you wherever you go.
Carry your data inside
the GStor Wave document folders for easy
access.
Configure your GStor Wave
e-mail client and accounts so that
your correspondence will be as mobile
as you are.
Step 2 - Work with GStor Wave On-the-Go
Plug your GStor Wave into
any PC and start the Ceedo working
environment.
Use your programs, access
your data, send and receive your e-mails.
When you're done - eject
your GStor Wave and take your working environment
with you; nothing will be left behind.
How do I start using GStor Wave?
Here is what you should do in order
to start using GStor Wave:
го Add programs to your GStor Wave.
Go through the Programs Directory
and find the programs you wish to
add to GStor Wave; then install them with
a single mouse click.
го Start working . GStor Wave is now ready to go!
Go to any PC - be it at work, airport
terminal, internet cafe or
friend's computer - and plug-in your
GStor Wave. The portable
working environment will start automatically,
showing you the Compact Bar
and Easy-Access Menu. Now you can
use your programs, work on your documents,
surf the web and send and receive
emails. When you are finished - eject
GStor Wave from the host PC and take your
entire working environment with you
wherever you go!
What is
'safe browsing'?
GStor Wave allows you to safely surf the
web from any computer using your favorite
web browser. Besides having the actual
browser installed on your GStor Wave, you
are also carrying your favorites and
cookies with you; this means that
your data remains with you at all
time.
Moreover, using GStor Wave for internet
access provides a safe way of making
sure that no personal information
will be left behind during your web
session, regardless of the actual
computer you are working on. GStor Wave
leaves no trace of your web activity
on the host computer, ensuring perfect
anonymity once you eject your GStor Wave
and leave the host computer.
An excellent way to find out whether
you are currently browsing safely
is to look for the caption-bar
icon , located on the top-right
corner of the browser's window. Whenever
you run a program from GStor Wave, this
icon will appear on the window caption;
the same case applies for web browsers.
Therefore, no matter how many windows
are open on the desktop, you could
always keep track of those you have
launched from GStor Wave, and safely know
that your browsing session is secured.
Safe browsing is important for making
sure that your internet activity is
not recorded on the host computer
while surfing the web. Username and
password information, cookies, history
and accessed web pages are always
kept on your GStor Wave drive and carried
with you, allowing you to maintain
your personal information with you.
Can I use GStor Wave without an active Internet connection?
Though
GStor Wave requires an active Internet connection for most of its core
functions, and particularly for program installation and automatic
updating, once installed and set-up (assuming that programs were
installed from the online Programs Directory while an Internet
connection was available) it should work fine on a computer without
Internet connectivity.
How can I make the personal working environment software run faster?
The
speed at which programs running in GStor Wave is determined by a
variety of factors - including to a large extent the capabilities of
the particular host machine.
Users also have the option of placing
GStor Wave's temporary files on the host machine, which should improve the
speed of programs which use temporary files intensively, e.g. web
browsers.

Hardware and Software Support |
|
What are the system requirements for using the GStor Wave personal working environment?
The PC you plug you Ceedo into must meet the following Minimum system requirements:
Pentium II 350 MHz class CPU or faster
Windows 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista.
USB 1.1 port (USB 2.0 recommended)
Internet Explorer 5.0 or above
Active Internet Connection
When installing new programs on GStor Wave, make sure you read the system requirements for that program.
Can I run Ceedo on a Mac?
GStor Wave's personal working environment software
does not currently support - nor was it designed to run on - the MacOS
system.
Though
it has not been thoroughly tested to do so, it might operate in an
emulated PC environment on the Mac. That is the best solution available
at the moment for Mac users, as far as we know.
Does GStor Wave support encryption and/or password protection?
GStor Wave
contains a powerful easy-to-use file encryption utility called DataSafe.
Does GStor Wave support file and/or e-mail synchronization?
GStor Wave contains a flexible intuitive file synchronization utility.
Does GStor Wave support Java?
GStor Wave does not currently support the Java Runtime Environment.
Does GStor Wave support Microsoft Outlook and Exchange?
Support for Microsoft Outlook, including Exchange mode, is planned to
be incorporated into the GStor Wave platform later this year or early next
year. This support will likely be offered as an add-on which will extend support to Outlook as a Profiled Application.
Profiled
Applications are programs that can commonly be found on Windows-based
PCs, and therefore do not have to be installed and carried in full on
your portable drive. For these applications, GStor Wave carries only the
preferences, user settings or Profile, and allows you to launch them
from the host machine with the GStor Wave user profile applied.
Does GStor Wave support Microsoft Access?
Microsoft Access is not currently certified to run on the GStor Wave
platform, but we are working to prepare it for certification. It will
be available in the future for as a Profiled
Application, just like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Does GStor Wave Support Internet Explorer 7?
GStor Wave includes experimental support
(i.e. you can still expect some bugs!) for Internet Explorer 7. This
support will be expanded in the future, and we intend to fully support
the new browser by the time it is officially released.
Can I install Visual Studio on GStor Wave?
Unfortunately, since GStor Wave's application virtualization technology is
inherently incompatible with software debuggers, there is no
possibility of installing Visual Studio (or any other programming
platforms, as far as we know) on GStor Wave.
Since this is a core infrastructure issue we have no plans at this time to enable this functionality. |

How
do I open the Easy-Access Menu?
To open the Easy-Access Menu,
click the Open Ceedo button located at the middle of your Compact Bar.
Also, at any time, you can use the Hotkey (keyboard
shortcut). This hotkey is set by default
to <Windows + C>, but you can
change it through the Hotkeys tab
in the Options menu.
How do
I hide the Compact Bar?
To hide the Compact Bar, click the Minimize button.
The Compact Bar will be Minimized,
while the most important Ceedo functions
can still be accessed through the
Ceedo icon in your system tray.
How do
I restore the Compact Bar after hiding
it?
To restore the Compact Bar after
it has been Minimized, click the Ceedo
icon in your system
tray. The Compact Bar will
be restored.
How do
I eject my GStor Wave drive?
You must always properly eject your GStor Wave before unplugging it from
the computer. To eject GStor Wave, click
the Eject button
on your Compact Bar. GStor Wave will then
attempt to close the programs and
folders that you have opened from
Ceedo. You will be notified when it
is safe to remove the drive from the
computer.
You can also eject GStor Wave by selecting Eject from the tray icon popup menu.
How do
I exit Ceedo without ejecting my drive?
To close Ceedo, select Exit from the tray icon popup menu.
Note that closing Ceedo this way
allows you to access your drive; it
does not eject your drive, so it is
not safe to remove it yet. To safely
remove your drive after you have closed
the personal working environment software, use the Safely Remove
Hardware option:
Double-click the Safely
Remove Hardware system tray
icon
Select the drive you
want to eject and click Stop.
Once Windows has notified
you that it is safe to remove your
drive from the computer, unplug it.
Note:
Ceedo automatically closes all running
windows, programs, web pages and folders
when shutting down. If a program cannot
be closed for some reason, Ceedo will
display a standard message window,
allowing you to manually close the
program or to abort the program's
termination and handle it yourself.
Ceedo will not shut down until all
windows, programs, web pages and folders
have been closed.
What is
the Used Space Meter?
The Used Space Meter indicates how
much storage space is currently used
on your removable drive. It presents
the used space in size relative to
the total space on the drive. The
color of the meter changes according
to the amount of space used on the
drive:
Green - up to 70% of the drive's space is
used
Yellow - the drive is over 70% full
Red - the drive is over 90% full
When I click Eject, the personal working environment software seems to close but does not eject the removable drive. Why?
If the personal working environment software completes its exit procedure, and Windows
displays a message box saying the drive could not be ejected, this
means that GStor Wave has already cleared all of your personal information
from the host computer. The process would be equivalent to selecting
Exit from the tray icon menu and not ejecting the drive. You
should be able to eject the drive from the Safely Remove Hardware tray
icon later.
How do I import my existing Outlook Express data into the Outlook Express on GStor Wave?
The process for exporting and importing Outlook Express address books is as follows:
- Open Outlook Express on the host computer.
- In the top menu, go to Tools\Address Book.
- Go to File\Export\Address Book (WAB).
- Save the .wab file somewhere on your USB flash drive.
- Close Outlook Express.
- Open GStor Wave 's Outlook Express.

- Go to File\Import\Address Book (WAB).

it.
Once you have finished installing the program, you can either install another program on your GStor Wave, or close the Programs Directory window.

written below its name. Please make
sure you have enough free space in
order to add the program to your GStor Wave
by checking the Used Space
Meter at the bottom of your
easy-access menu.
A program I downloaded from the Programs Directory is not the latest version available. Why?
We
perform rigorous testing before posting updated program versions to the
Programs Directory, which unfortunately sometimes causes delays
between the application's release and the moment it is posted. Please
know that the reason for this is that it is very important for us to
certify that the programs listed on the Directory work well on the GStor Wave platform. We thank you for your patience.
How do
I remove a program from GStor Wave?
Open the easy-access menu by clicking the Open Ceedo button.
